§ 30.50. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION.

  • (A) Established. There is hereby created and established a Department of Economic Development for the city, to be under the control of a three-member board to be known as the City Economic Development Commission.

    (B) Membership.
    (1) The Commission members shall be appointed by the Mayor upon selection and nomination as follows:
    (a) One member shall be selected by the Mayor, and shall serve an initial term of three years from 2-1-1970;
    (b) One member shall be nominated by the County Council, and shall serve an initial term of one year from 2-1-1970; and
    (c) One member shall be nominated by a majority vote of the City Council, and shall serve an initial term of two years from 2-1-1970.
    (2) At the expiration of the respective terms, successors shall be nominated and appointed in the same manner as the original appointee, and each succeeding member shall serve a term of four years.

    (C) Qualifications. No person shall be appointed as a Commissioner who is not either a resident of, employed in, or the owner of a business in the city.

    (D) Oath of office. Each Commissioner, before entering upon his or her duties, shall take and subscribe an oath of office in the usual form to be endorsed upon the certificate of his or her appointment, which shall be promptly filed with the Clerk-Treasurer.

    (E) Powers and duties. The Department of Economic Development is created pursuant to I.C. 36-7-12 et seq., and the Economic Development Commission is hereby vested with all authority of and subject to the provisions of I.C. 36-7-12 et seq.
